Brazil's version of 'Sex and the City' receives backlash for racist stereotypes

Outrage towards (link is external) a Brazilian adaptation of the popular US show 'Sex and the City (link is external)' resulted in campaigns to get the programme cancelled for racist stereotypes. The series called "Sexo e as Negas", features four black women as its protagonists. In Brazilian Portuguese, "negas" is a colloquial term for black women, but is sometimes used derogatorily.
Many viewers demanded (link is external) the show's cancellation and for advertisers to stop sponsoring (link is external) the series. The series' creator denied that the series was racist.
